Frequently Asked Questions

Although not an all inclusive list, we hope these FAQ's will help you.

Where do I get my claim number?

After contacting the insurance company they will assign you claim number. Simply call Stacey at Prewett's Collision Repair with the claim number and we will handle the entire claims process for you.

Are you open on Saturdays?

No, we are not usually open on Saturdays.  We may be in the shop getting jobs completed, but we need our time off too and Saturday is a family day.

Do I have to get multiple estimates for my insurance company?

Perhaps, depending on your insurance company. However, if you select us, Prewett' Collision Repair will negotiate on your behalf with your insurance or fleet company to ensure a fair and proper repair to your vehicle.

Will the parts be ordered before I drop off my vehicle for repair?

Absolutely! This is a crucial part of our exclusive “Total Customer Support”. In some instances we can order parts, prep panels and cycle your repairs in 1 or 2 days – where other shops may take weeks to process. Of course if we deem your vehicle unsafe to drive, you will leave the vehicle with us and you can arrange a car rental immediately if you wish.

We work off of you insurance companies quote and they are not always exact. If we get into your repair and find we need additional parts, we will contact your insurance company and get the quote adjusted for you and order the parts. In this case, where it was overlooked in the beginning, there may be s short delay while additional  parts are ordered. However, it will be done right before you pick up the car.  If there is an unforeseen delay, you will be notified as soon as we discover the problem.

If the frame of my vehicle is damaged, is it a total loss?

No. A car is a total loss only when the price of repairs exceeds the insurance company's determined value of your vehicle. Now-a-days, most cars are built using unibody (frame and body as one) construction. Our highly skilled technicians, with the aid of our state-of the-art frame straightener can return your vehicle to its original factory specifications. If it is determined that the frame section is bent beyond repair, that section can simply be replaced.

We also are equipped to professionally repair and replace full frame vehicles.

How long does glass repair / replacement generally take?

We offer same day glass replacement, and although with an appointment it can be done while you wait, we discourage waiting. Modern windshields use a sealant that needs to cure for several hours to make the repair permanent. Driving off in the car too soon can ruin an otherwise perfect installation.

We use only the highest quality glass for perfect clarity. Glass replacement also carries our guarantee against leaking. In some cases, small nicks cracks or stone chips can be repaired without replacement and this eliminates any insurance deductable. We also repair problematic inner-door issues pertaining to glass and its function.

Can you match a specific paint color?

Today's modern factory finishes incorporate multiple layers of highly specialized paints. We ensure that each vehicle's paint matches. We take special pride in our ability to match factory finishes as the final step in the restoration/paint process.

What is paintless dent repair?

Why pay for expensive paintwork if a more cost efficient way is available? Paintless dent repairs often provide a much less expensive solution to the annoying "door ding" and  hail damage challenges than full body and paintwork. Ask Stacy to advise you on this process. It can be an inexpensive way to bring your vehicle back to smooth again.

Can I get other service work done on my vehicle it's in the body shop?

Yes. Just let Stacey know what other work you would like done so that he can make the necessary arrangements.

How long will my vehicle repairs take?

Stacey can give you an estimate of the time it will take to complete the repairs to your vehicle.

Can I get a ride home after dropping off my car?

Yes, we would be happy to provide this service to you. We want each customer's visit to be a positive experience and will work diligently towards that goal. We can provide local pickup and delivery service. If your car cannot be driven to our shop, we can arrange for a towing company to trailer your car to the shop.

How can I get a rental car?

If you need a rental car, we can help you make the necessary arrangements. Insurance companies will only pay for a rental car if you have that option on your policy or if you are the claimant. Check your policy and/or call your insurance company to find out if you have rental coverage and what your specific limitations are. If you do not have rental coverage on your policy, we will assist you in acquiring a leased vehicle locally.

Is there a warranty on the repairs to my vehicle?

Yes. Prewett's Collision Repair Body Shop guarantees all repairs. Warranties are based on many aspects of the repair.  Glass obviously has a different warranty than a used fender which is different than a new fender. Your warranty will vary depending on the parts your insurance company authorizes us to use, or repair and the work that needs to be done. Based on your individual needs, your warranties will be discussed before any repairs are done.

Rest assured that you will be happy with the work, that we guarantee!

Do I have to pay a deductible?

Deductibles, when applicable (based on your insurance company), are paid at the time of pick up, although can be prepaid if desired. Deductibles are paid to Prewett's Collision Repair.

What forms of payment do you accept?

The easiest and most convenient way to pay for your portion of the repairs to your vehicle is with a major credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, & Discover. Of course, cash and checks are always welcome.

What are "betterment" charges?

Parts that wear out and need replacement with time and use (i.e., tires, batteries, and suspension parts) are commonly subject to betterment charges when they are replaced during the repair process. These betterment charges are determined by your insurance company and are pro-rated based on actual miles on your vehicle.

A few tips to help you in the future.

  • Never have your car repaired by a collision facility you don't trust suggested by an Insurance Company. It will be in their best interest, not yours. Know your repair facility!
  • Your Car is the second Largest investment you are likely to make. Preserve its' value and your safety by having it repaired professionally.
  • Never drive a vehicle that could be unsafe or will not pass a state inspection due to damage.
  • Some insurance companies may want you to visit their drive-in claims center before having your vehicle repaired. Do not do this, You may leave your vehicle at our shop and our estimator will handle the claim for you.
  • There is no law requiring you to obtain more than one estimate. The insurance company has two choices: Pay from the first estimate or inspect your vehicle themselves.
  • You have the right to go to the repair facility of your choice. Your insurance company cannot require you to go to a particular shop.
  • Differences in repair estimates are common. A lower estimate may not include all necessary work. If you're not sure why one estimate is different from another you've received, please ask us.
  • Choose a shop that has state of the art equipment.
  • Ask if the shop will be using genuine parts made by the manufacturer or high quality after market parts in your repair.
  • Ask if the shop offers a legitimate repair warranty (not a gimmick "lifetime" warranty)
  • Lastly, the insurance company is not your friend. They are after one thing... and that is to save themselves money. If they feel they can get away with cutting corners during your repair then they will. Even if it means that you lose value, safety, and longevity from your vehicle.

Can I wash my car?

Recommendations and precautions within the first 30 days

Do:

  • Wash the vehicle by hand with cool water and a very mild car wash solution using a soft cloth or sponge.
  • Always use clean fresh water.
  • Wash your vehicle in the shade.
  • Shammy you car dry, do not let water spots form from air drying.

Don't:

  • Do not use a commercial car wash. Stiff brushes or sponges could mar the finish and damage the surface.
  • Do not "dry wipe" your vehicle. Dry wiping can scratch the finish.
  • Do not drive on gravel roads. Chipping the finish is easily done in the first 30 days.
  • Avoid parking under trees and utility lines which are likely to attract birds. Bird droppings have a high acid content and will damage a freshly painted surface. Also, tree sap can mar or spot a freshly painted surface.
  • Do not spill gasoline, oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, brake fluid or windshield solvent on the new finish.
  • Do not scrape ice or snow from the newly painted surface.
